STEP 1: PREP THE HOOP

Place hoop on fabric and cut about 3 in. from hoop edge around the hoop. Next use the inner hoop to trace a circle onto the felt, outlining the outside of the inner hoop. This will come in handy later, for finishing the back of the hoop. Place the inner hoop piece on a flat surface and place fabric on to the top of the hoop. Snap the outer hoop over and tighten screw. Pull the fabric taut to get rid of any wrinkles.

STEP 2: MAKE THE TASSELS

Cut a piece of cardboard about 3 inches long (or adjust to size you want). To make the tassels start by cutting two pieces of yarn about 3-4 inches long and set aside. Then wrap the yarn around the cardboard 25 times. Take one of the yarn pieces you cut previously and tie it around one side of the wrapped yarn that is still on the cardboard. Then cut along the opposite side of the tassel string. Tie the second piece a 1/2 inch down from the top tie. Now you have a tassel! You will want to make a total of 10 tassels.

STEP 3: STAR & TRUNK & PLACEMENT

Cut your star and tree trunk out of the brown and gold/yellow felt. Place the tassels, star and tree trunk where you want them on the hoop.

STEP 4: ASSEMBLE

Tact down your tassels, star and trunk with the color coordinating thread. Then add the pre-cut felt backing. There are two ways to do this.

1. Stitch Method:

Cut fabric to about a 1/2 inch to 1 inch around the hoop. Fold the fabric in and lay the felt on the back. Using a whip stitch or a blanket stitch to attach.

2. Using Superglue:

Cut fabric as close to the hoop seam as possible and superglue felt to back.

Hope y'all enjoy making this Christmas Tassel Hoop as much as I do! Check out my final piece HERE. You can also find a quick video of this process HERE.
